Finding the right expert witness for your property dispute can mean the difference between winning and losing the fight. It’s essential you find the perfect person for the job.

It can be difficult to find the right person to serve as your expert witness, particularly if you’ve never done this before. Ideally, you want someone who is very familiar with the type of situation you are in. Here are a few things that you should consider when finding the right expert for your case:

They Have the Right Credentials

If you need a specialised witness, ensure they have the right credentials for the job. The courts will take their thoughts on the situation more seriously if they have the experience and credentials to prove their expertise.

They’re Impartial

It may be tempting to ask your friend who works in the field to be an expert witness for you. Although that may be cheaper, it can really hurt your case as they’re too close to you. Finding a witness who is completely impartial will help your case credibility. Use a firm to find an expert witness for your case to speed up the process and ensure you have an impartial witness. They will be able to do background checks on the witness to make sure they don’t have any ties to either side of the dispute.

They Understand How the Court Works

A witness who has at least a little understanding of how courts work will find it easier to navigate the questions asked. They should be comfortable working with solicitors and will add to your case. The court will notice how comfortable the witness is in front of the court and this can affect your case positively. While it has no bearing on their expertise, first impressions do count.

They Are Confident Speakers

Although someone can be an expert in their field, they may not be comfortable with speaking in front of people. It’s important to find someone who is comfortable speaking with authority in front of a crowd. They need to be confident when they are explaining everything, as this will affect their credibility. Someone who stammers out a few facts or seems hesitant about their topic will not inspire confidence. It can be a daunting task to find an expert witness for your property. It may feel overwhelming and you may not know where to begin looking.
