Mould is never a good thing to find in your home. It can cause damage to the structure as well as create health problems. It’s best to catch it early so you may fix the problem before it becomes bigger. There are a few signs that you may have mould in your home.

Dark Tile Grout

If the grout between the tiles in your shower is darker than it should be? This can be a sign of mould. Start by using a tile cleaner to clean the grout up and then keep an eye on it to see if it returns quickly.

Peeling Wallpaper

Peeling wallpaper can be a sign of moisture in the walls. This often means that there is mould or that there will be soon. If you find that your wallpaper is peeling, you may want to bring in a professional to survey the space and find the source of the moisture.

Dark Spots or Texture on Walls or Ceilings

If a dark spot appears on the walls or ceiling or the texture starts to change, that may indicate there is a leak. Leaks almost always lead to mould and should be addressed immediately. The most important thing is to find and fix the leak. Once the leak is fixed, if there is no mould already, you’ll need to dry the space.

Seasonal Allergies That Won’t Go Away

Seasonal allergies should only last for the season of whatever you are allergic to. If you find that your allergies are just not going away, that could mean that there is mould in your home. This will mean that you should get your home checked so that you can fix the problem and get back to your healthy self. Whether you are planning to live in your home or sell it in the near future, it’s important to get your home surveyed if you find signs of mould. A home won’t sell without a survey and it is better to catch the mould early so that you can fix the problem and ensure a quick sale. Contact Simon Levy Associates today to schedule a structural survey to look for mould.
